Intellectual humility has important implications for the degree to which people are open to new information, think carefully about the evidence for their beliefs, treat people who disagree with them respectfully, and behave in ways that promote positive social relationships. This session will examine the nature and causes of low and high intellectual humility, its effects on people’s psychological and social well-being, the relevance of intellectual humility for dealing with ideological divisions in society, and tactics for enhancing intellectual humility in oneself and others.
